Lead Me to the Rock

Selah.

I have felt so many emotions this past week. I felt busy, rushed, grateful, thankful, and overwhelmed. Grateful and thankful because all the preparation I’ve been doing paid off this past Saturday. I saw another glimpse of promise on the horizon. I felt rushed because there never seems to be enough hours in the day. Lastly, I felt overwhelmed. Why? I can’t pinpoint one thing, but I know it centers around my future, devastating events in the world, personal matters, and so much more. My spirit felt troubled and nervous. There was also an unsettling in my spirit. I just couldn’t shake it. Anxiety tried to creep in my mind.  What do I do with this feeling of being overwhelmed? This unsettling?

Psalm 61:1-2 says “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

God is the remedy. God is the only one who can set our hearts and minds on the right path. He alone can remove the feelings that don’t align with His word. Acknowledging our feelings helps bring them to light. It helps us deal with them. Yes, God knows what we feel, but we have to acknowledge it ourselves. We have to bring it all to Him. It is ok to feel, but don’t rest in those feelings, especially feelings of anxiety or being overwhelmed. God will help us work through every feeling and emotion that we bring to Him. God will help us find “the why” behind it all. Often, we never understand why we feel the way we do; why some feelings seem to pop out of nowhere. God has the answers.

I had to bring my feelings to God. Did I sit in my feelings for a couple of days? Absolutely. Did it temporarily wreck my brain? You bet it did. After while, I told myself I do not have to be overwhelmed. I do not have to be nervous or anxious. I serve a God who will bring me comfort, joy, and peace. I had to seek Him first. I had to bring my worries to Him. I had to pray and spend time with my Heavenly Father.

If you are experiencing that feeling of being overwhelmed, the Bible instructs us to take it to God. Take it to the one who can remove those heavy burdens, cleanse our heart, and mind, and give us comfort.  Without God we are nothing. Without God we are consumed by our feelings. Without God, we will find ourselves drowning in our sorrow. God is the answer.

Hear my cry O lord; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle forever; I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. Psalm 61:1-4.

I am no longer overwhelmed. Selah.
